Spirituality Posts:

1. Scott Perlo: Spirituality and Religion Are Not Mutually Exclusive
“Are religion and spirituality separate species? To the minds of most Americans, I think the answer is clearly yes… For many, religion is the primary obstacle to spirituality, if not its true enemy. The widespread celebration of spirituality coupled with suspicion of religion is part of our American heritage.”

2. Katelyn Montero: Yoga: A Healthful and Relaxing Activity for All
“Some are wary of the spiritual aspects of the discipline while others remain skeptical of whether or not the exercises are actually effective. Yet, recent research indicates that positions like “downward facing dog” may hold the secret to a successful, healthy lifestyle.”

3. Tom Hartley: Just Because it’s Art, Doesn’t Make it Religious
“In a pluralistic society the state must not promote religion. However, not all art is religious, though it may be spiritual. The distinction between the religious and the spiritual is not easily drawn, however, since it is arguably all in the eye of the beholder.”

“Faithful attending the beatification of Pope John Paul in Rome will be able to pray before his coffin, which will be exhumed for the event, the Vatican said on Friday. The Vatican also warned the faithful around the world not to fall prey to fraudsters, particularly on the Internet, who are selling tickets to the beatification ceremony on May 1.”

2. Yahoo News/AP: UC Davis Removes Web Wording that Upset Christians
“The University of California at Davis has eliminated from its website a definition of religious discrimination that offended more than two dozen Christian students. The wording to which the students objected defined religious discrimination in the United States as “institutionalized oppressions toward those who are not Christian.”

3. Reuters: Egyptian Revolution Brings Show of Religious Unity after Tensions
“The surge of popular unity that toppled Hosni Mubarak last week has eased tension between Egypt’s Muslims and the Coptic Christian minority and raised hopes for lasting harmony. Muslims and Christians joined hands and formed human shields to protect each other from riot police as members of the different faiths prayed during the protests in Cairo.”
